Larry Eppley, Dear Friend, 2024, Liquid acrylic, spray paint and marker on canvas, 24” x 36”

Join us for our third annual Haymarket Gala, as we come together for a special evening to highlight our history and vision for the future. The annual gala shines a light on recovery and recognizes our partners who contribute to our patients’ success. The evening will feature celebrity speaker Andrew McCarthy, a silent auction, dinner, and important conversations about substance use disorder.  Irika Sargent of CBS Chicago will be back as Master of Ceremonies this year!

This year’s gala theme is “Believe.” Many of the silent auction items reflect that motif from local experiences, architecture tours of the city, and visual art. Local artist Larry Eppley will donate an abstract painting that was created especially for the gala. Eppley provides the following statement about his piece:

“Dear Friend, 2024 embodies the spring season with a vibrant burst of color. Using an "embodied abstraction" approach, I wrangled violet and fuchsia tones alongside cooler shades of cerulean and citrine, set against a backdrop of frosted lavender. Drawing inspiration from the film "Less than Zero" and its gauzy anthem "Hazy Shade of Winter" by The Bangles, I dove into the captivating, candy-colored facade of 1980s Beverly Hills, exploring the illusions and glamour that defined its fast-paced lifestyle. Beneath skeins of vivid paint, the artwork reveals my distinct iconography: a crowned fairy and a vigilant eye. Subtly emerging from the composition's center is the word ‘believe,’ serving as a benevolent nod to this year's auction theme. Dear Friend encapsulates the essence of a bygone era, inviting viewers to reflect on the intricate interplay of fantasy and reality that shaped the cultural landscape of that time.”
